Looking Forward to March, Stewardship Month!

March is Stewardship month here at Lakecrest. This month is always a special blessing to our people as we have the opportunity to hear special Bible teaching and preaching, as well as stewardship testimonies during this time. It is so exciting to hear how God works in the lives of our people.

We believe that God is very interested in us being faithful stewards with what He has entrusted to us; our time, talents, and treasures.

Brother Dan Burris

The LBC family will greatly miss Brother Dan Burris. Bro. Burris went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning the 31 of January, 2012. His many years of service to the Lord and his great spirit were a great asset to our church. Memorial service arrangements are as follows…

“Knowing Him and Making Him Known.”

I am grateful for the wonderful beginning of the year 2012 in the LBC family. This year we have adopted the theme of “Knowing Him And Making Him Known”. We are teaching Sunday School lessons that apply to this theme, preaching messages along these lines, and challenging our people to strive to know the Lord in a more intimate way, and strive to make Him known to all peoples, all nations, and to the ends of the earth.

This past fall I came across Psalm 67, and the Word began to do a great work in my heart and life. Some Bible commentators have called Psalm 67 “The Missionary Psalm”. The Psalm is merely seven verses long, but in these seven verses we see the heart of our great God.

The Prayer (Psalm 67:1-2).

We all know our Lord wants us to pray. We understand that prayer is a vehicle whereby we can obtain from the Lord that which we need and even desire. In Psalm 67:1-2 we see our Lord encouraging us to pray so that we will receive His blessing. Notice the phrase, “And cause his face to shine upon us”. Truly the Lord wants to bless His people in a very special way. May we pray for His blessing. May we long for His blessing. May we hunger for His blessing.

The Purpose (Psalm 67:2-5).

In this chapter you see three amazing phrases that communicate to us the desire of our Lord. His desire is that he may be known to: all nations (vs. 2), all people (vs. 3, 5), and to all the ends of the earth (vs. 7). Our God created man unique from any other creation. He created man in such a way that man could fellowship with his Creator, get to know his Creator, and then with his life please Him and bring honor and glory to Him. It is our Lord’s desire that all nations, all peoples, and throughout the ends of the earth know Him and bring honor and glory to Him. Our Lord is desirous to bless us so that we can be more effective at making Him known and pleasing Him.

The Promise (Psalm 67:6-7).

Notice in verse 6 the word “then”. As we strive to fulfill the purpose for which we have been created, “then” will the Lord bless us abundantly so that all nations, all people, and all the earth may know the Lord and may please and fear Him with their life. It is important that we understand we cannot separate fulfilling His purpose with the promise that He makes. These two are connected. The Lord wants us to pray so He can bless us. He promises to bless us as we get busy fulfilling the purpose that He has for us. Our purpose is to make Him known to all nations, all people, and the ends of the earth so that all nations, all people, and the ends of the earth may please Him and bring honor and glory to Him. What a challenge this theme is, not only to our church family, but to each of us as individuals. I am praying that every family, every ministry, and our entire church family will allow Psalm 67, and this theme, to grip our hearts throughout the year. We must recognize that we cannot please Him unless we are making Him known. May we pray for His blessing so that we will be more effective at making Him known.

Bro. Wethy went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, the 3rd of January 2012. He will be greatly missed by his family and church family here at LBC where he spent the last almost 40 years. We greatly appreciate his service and dedication to the Lord, his godly testimony, and that he finished well.

Viewing is located at Riverside Chapel in Waterford. Thursday 5-8 pm and Friday 3-8 pm.

Christmas Day Church Schedule

Christmas falls on a Sunday once every few years; this being one of them. At LBC we are planning on having a very merry Christmas with our same regular church schedule. The buses will be running, Sunday School at 10:00 am, church at 11:00, and our special Christmas night service at 6:00 pm. We believe that Christ should be first and foremost during this Christmas season, and we plan on scheduling our Christmas day around HIM, not the other way around. Please join us Christmas day for a very special Sunday!

Midwestern Baptist College Christmas Program

Saturday, Dec. 17th at 7:30 pm Midwestern Baptist College will be presenting a Christmas concert at the Lakecrest Baptist church in the main auditorium. Mrs. Tammie Burris

The LBC church family will miss one of their own, Mrs. Tammie Burris, as she went home to be with the Lord Monday, the 17th of October. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

The funeral service will be at the Coats Funeral home in Waterford on Sashabaw road, Tuesday, the 25th, at 10:30 am. Burial will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

The manager of the funeral home informed us that the funeral service would be live-streamed and archived on their website.

Dr. Bob Gray at Lakecrest; Oct. 23

Dr. Bob Gray will be with us this fall on Sunday, October 23. We are trusting the Lord and working hard for a great day. All are invited to a special Sunday dinner directly following the morning service. The morning service begins at 11 am. Please pray with us for many to come to Christ and for many baptisms.

Dr. Bob Gray, Sr. is Pastor Emeritus of Longview Baptist Temple in Longview, Texas, where he pastored for twenty nine years.

Under Dr. Gray’s leadership, the church baptized over 10,000 people for 5 years in a row with 12,951 professions of faith while averaging 4,400 in attendance. The church has a membership of 20,000. Dr. Gray personally had 155 baptisms in 2000.

Dr. Gray attended Michigan State University and worked seven years as an accountant for General Motors at Kalamazoo, Michigan before entering the ministry at the age of twenty-eight. He attended Hyles-Anderson College in Hammond, Indiana and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1976. During Bible College he was listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.” He also served on the staff of the college. Dr. Gray received an Honorary Doctor degree from Hyles-Anderson College and Tri-State Baptist College.
